![]() ![]() We will walk alongside them as they build relationships, gain knowledge, and find their passion. They will be plugged into a community group and begin to engage in community service hours while residents are in the program. While in the Home, the women will be expected to work and attend life skills training classes, such as but not limited to financial peace university, classes offered at career source, resume building, business etiquette, Microsoft Office Suite, and many more. They will gain valuable life skills training, counseling, and individualized care plans. The Freedom House transitional housing program allows women exiting homelessness, incarceration, human trafficking, and addiction treatment to have a safe place to go and identify their needed life skills. I am so excited for my future plans and to be able to execute these plans today now that I am sober.The Freedom House is a safe sober living environment for women who are ready to change their lives.įreedom House residents are able to learn valuable life skills geared to prepare them to become independent, successful contributing members of society and help them break the cycle of dysfunction in their lives and in their families. I want to be able to have saving accounts for my children so they can build a future and attend college when that time comes. I will be an active parent in my children’s life again and hope to build relationships with my children stronger than I could even imagine. ![]() I want to be able to help others in this situation in the future. I plan to attend school when I leave New Journey, I will begin at Akron University in the spring and study Social Work. I will be forever grateful for having this opportunity here. I have made so much growth and have learned a lot at New Journey. I honestly do not know if all of these things would be happening in my life today if I had went anywhere else for this phase of my journey. I have also had an opportunity to grow, adjust and get grounded in my recovery while living at New Journey. I will be moving into my own apartment with my two children this week through OMCDC Housing. I was assisted in putting together my resume and now I am set to start a job at Coleman Data Solutions. During my time here I completed the Getting Ahead Program, Nutrition, weekly employment classes. ![]() I was the very first client to enter into the New Journey Recovery Housing program. I was discharged from a Summit County inpatient treatment program on and came straight to the New Journey Recovery Housing program, where I found a lot of love and support. I have a home group, which is a women’s meeting that meets on Wednesday evenings. I am a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, I attend meetings daily and am actively working a 12-step program with my amazing sponsor. I currently am 1 day away from having 11 months of continued sobriety. I attended two different treatment facilities within my addiction. I struggled with addiction to pain pills and heroin for about 7 years. I have two beautiful boys, ages 13 and 10. I am a 32-year-old female, recovering from heroin addiction. I appreciate the opportunity given to me to restore my life. Last but not least, as of February 18, 2022, I had 1 year sober. I also have most of my probation fines paid off. I am also in the process of buying a car. I have also paid all fines to the Bureau of Motor Vehicle (BMV) and am in the process of getting my driver’s license back and will be taking my driver’s test in March 2022. I also have been hired in as a permanent employee at my job and received a promotion after months of working through a temporary service. I have opened a checking, savings, and Christmas club account at the Credit Union. I have accomplished a lot since being at New Journey Recovery House. I chose New Journey Recovery House because it was my last alternative, I either had to come here or return to living in Mansfield where I spent a lot of my time using.Ĭoming to New Journey Recovery Housing has been such a blessing I have learned to live again, and it has taken me away from an environment I did not think I could ever get out of. I started buying pain pills on the streets that then turned into heroin and fentanyl. I ended up on the streets after I lost my house, marriage, and could not see my granddaughter be born. I was involved with pain management for 17 years and was given every pain pill and patch available. I was first introduced to opiates at the age of 30 due to an injury at work. It has taken me away from an environment I did not think I could ever get out of. ![]()
